2010 State Tournament

A perfect October day made for an exciting, fun, and memorable State Championship in 2010.

And the fun's not necessarily over! We're planning to play the next few mondays, weather permitting. (Post-tournament play is something we've never done before).

Here are some (mostly ceremonial) highlights of this year's big event.

LPSC History

This image was probably shot in 1939, when the Loring Park Shuffleboard Courts were a recently-completed WPA project.

As you can see, there was no fence at the time, so police officers were used for security. Which is good, because Lee Harvey Oswald is standing right there behind one of the players.

2010 Here We Come!

Greetings!

The Loring Park Shuffleboard Club's 2010 season will begin Wednesday, May 26th with our annual Member Appreciation Night event. (Rain date — Thursday, the 27th).

Join us at 7:00 p.m. on the Target Courts (makers of fine art museums and expensive sports facilities) (with shed by Lowe's — "We stand behind every shed we sell!").

Orientation, business meeting, and election of officers from 7:00 to 7:05 p.m., then shuffling! Feel free to bring a treat to share. (Or you can share someone else's treat.)

The regular season opener will be Monday, June 7th, at 7:00 p.m. We're looking forward to our best season ever!

2009 Tournament a) Happened, b) Was Amazing!

After a one-week delay due to rain, we would not be deterred by a little snow and cold weather. With the courts dry by game-time and temperatures in the 30's, the 2009 State Championship commenced.

After a thrilling and surprise-filled preliminary round, a Turkey Shoot was necessary to determine the final four. If the semi-finals were dramatic and engaging, then there are no words to describe the championship match between Mark and Ron. Playing to 75, the lead switched (as per the hammer) in every single one of the first eight frames. Ron put Mark away for good after a few frames on the right side of the board -- with Ron taking the title in only his first year of play.

What a DAY!

See you all next year if not in the off-season.

White Elephant Night, Monday, Sept 28

Bring a cheap, useless object (Hey, watch with the jokes, Marsha) next week to the regular season finale!

Marketeer Lee Ann Gustafson (who has had all the ideas this year) came up with the concept of a white elephant swap. Give something—get something. Big or small. But keep it on the cheap and kitschy side.

See you Monday—then on to State!
