We have a winnah! Through a thoroughly pseudo-democratic process, we have chosen the official name of the new LPSC equipment storage unit -- the Duck Shed.

Name That Shed

As VP Vesley announced tonight, there will be a naming contest for our brand spanking new shed. To participate, simply click the comment link at the end of this post. Register your suggestions there. On Monday, June 1, all members present at 7 PM on the court will vote for the winner!

Members' Night

It was a beaut. Good turnout, free Red Hots, competitive matches, and perfect weather. LPSC's Members' Night 2009 was a swell way to start the season. Thanks, everyone, and we'll see you all on Mondays, starting June 1.

Yes We Can!

Wonder of wonders -- the new sheds are in place and we've set the LPSC 2009 schedule!

Members' Appreciation Night (MAN) is to take place on Thursday, May 21 from 7 to 9 PM. Those of you who can, please show up at 6:30 at Nettie's place for the ceremonial (and practical) final schlepp of equipment. We will inaugurate the new shed (one is for our use, one for the Wednesday night group's) shortly thereafter.

Then it's two hours of exciting shuffleboard. It will seem like four!

We'll have Monday the 25th off (in observance of Memorial Day), then the official (public) season opener will take place on June 1. As always, we'll play on Monday nights throughout the summer from 7 to 9.

Rumor has it that the Walker will be presenting a limited program of music and movies this year, due to budgetary constraints. So, most likely there will be fewer weeks of m&m events.

SHED Your Winter Blues!

Happy Spring, Everyone!

And yes, that is a double-entendre in the title.

I have it on good authority that we'll actually see some shed action very soon. V.P. Mark Vesley prompted Paul Hokeness about the state of the storage situation, and Paul responded with some very encouraging words:

It sounds like the sheds are being delivered tomorrow and we will have to assemble them and should get them out by next week.

Is this to be believed? Well, since we shot our last disc of the 2008 season, we've seen the election of the first US president of partial African ancestry, the price of gas has dropped precipitously, I got laid off, and an American ship captain was rescued from the hands of pirates.

So you see? Miraculous things can happen. (Not that laid off part so much).

If all goes well, you'll see pictures of the new shed right here in the weeks ahead. Also, look for info on the 2009 season -- coming soon.

Happy OFF-Season

The '08 season seems like it was ages ago. 2009 feels like the distant future. Happy holidays to all the LPSC members. Keep the shuffleboard spirit alive through the horrific upcoming months.

Shed Update

Rather than post or even describe the long correspondence between Mark and Paul, suffice it to say,

It's "in Lowes hands."

That's how Mark summed things up the other day.

Let's hope Lowes is on our side.

2008 Final Four

But THIS is the new home of the LPSC.

Let's start off with a recap of the 2008 State Tournament.

As you probably know, President Jim Ockuly did not prevail, in what would have been an unprecedented four-peat. He was surpassed by not one but two contenders! Perennial competitor Kurt Weidenhammer (sorry if that's mis-spelled) took second place, and dark horse Vice President Dick Cheney...I mean, Mark Vesley, is now the reigning CHAMP!!!

Rounding out the top four was Leann -- a new member who, fueled by Hot Tamales and Dum Dums, made great strides in her first year.

Special awards were doled out to Kurt, Marcia, and Nettie for their extra help and support in this shed-less year. (Watch this space for updates on that situation as news breaks).
